Remote Learning
The recent pandemic has placed us all in challenging situations. Children and students have been forced to navigate a world of online learning. As a result, behaviors have increased and learning has decreased. Applied Behavior Analysis strategies can be our solution. Below are some simple evidence-based strategies and tips to help your child with online learning.
Environmental Manipulation
Provide your child with a designated learning workspace. Free the area from clutter and distractions while also making it comfortable. This can include a specific chair, adjusting the height of a table to ensure their feet are grounded, and using favorite character or colors to pair learning with their interests.
Movement Breaks
Sitting at a table or desk for long periods of time can be boring but is also detrimental to one’s health. Allot for movement breaks where your child can take a walk outside, have a dance break, and walk away from learning.
Routine
Consistent routines are important. Teach your child what the expectations are and the sequence of events during daily learning. Use of visual schedules can benefit any child or adult to organize their day.
Be Patient and Flexible!
Learning takes time and everyone is adjusting to this new normal. Be patient with your child, keep things fun, and understand these transitions take time.
